it would be very nice if you could make the source code available in a SCM like git. Would like to contribute some patches.

Hi Frank - thank you for the note. This has come up before, and we would like to move in that direction. The only real delay has been that other priorates have taken precedence. I will look into getting a github repo setup as soon as I'm able.
