Software Raid and Migration Planning 10 years 7 months ago #69

Hi:

I´ll like to instasll a xenserver with ha-lizard to get a HA 2 node cluster.

I'll like to reuse the actual server as NODE 2, so first i need to P2V.

My planning is:

- Install xenserver with HA-Lizard NODE 01 - 3 Disks (or 5):
** 1 System Disk (NO RAID)
** 2 RAID 1 Software RAID (or 4 RAID 1 + 0).
- P2V servers and move VM´s to NODE 1.
- Install xenserver with HA-Lizard NODE 02 - 3 Disks (or 5):
** 1 System Disk (NO RAID)
** 2 RAID 1 Software RAID (or 4 RAID 1 + 0).

So,
1) Can I install HA lizard in a Software Raid?
2) Can I activate a HA-Lizard cluster with one node, and, after migrating the VMs, install the second one?

Thanks.

I assume you are using HA-Lizard + iSCSI-HA to make a 2 node pool with local storage.

1 - Can I install HA lizard in a Software Raid?
Yes Ha-Lizard/iSCSI-HA should support SW RAID. It is agnostic to the type of RAID and only needs to see the DRBD block device (regardless of whether there is even RAID at all to back the disks)

2 - Can I activate a HA-Lizard cluster with one node, and, after migrating the VMs, install the second one?
Although we have not specifically tried this, it should work. You may want to disable email alerts otherwise iSCSI-HA will keep sending warnings.
