Understandingg HA in HA-Lizard 10 years 7 months ago #74

When using HA-lizard in a pool, is mandatory using a centralized SR to get HA or it can be achieved with local SR?

Have i to activate preiously xenserver HA or it hasn' t to be done?

If i want an apliance started on Master node to be automatically started in another slave node member if a master failure happens, then i have to do something special or machine definitions are copied among nodes?
Can somebody explain how does it work?

Thanks.

Centralized SR is mandatory for full HA when using HA-lizard. However - when using HA-Lizard+iSCSI-HA (our noSAN solution), you can achieve full HA without an external SAN. In this case, all that is required is 2 servers with local storage and full HA and live migration, etc.. is all available. Please see the reference design and how-to for achieving full HA without a centralized SR. ALso, HA-Lizard can run on a single host for applications where restarting a downed VM is all that is required. halizard.com/images/pdf/iscsi-ha_2-node_...to_1.2.14a_final.pdf

HA-Lizard is an alternative solution for HA with XenServer. You should not use both HA-Lizard and XenServer HA at the same time. HA-Lizard HA logic is differnet than XenServer and in some ways more flexible. Most importantly, HA-Lizard supports HA in a 2 node pool (which is not well supported by XenServer HA). This is manatory when building the noSAN 2-node cluster outlined in the PDF above.

HA-lizard can be configured to manage appliances or individual VMs. By default, HA-Lizard will manage all VMs on a host. You can set HA-Lizard to manage appliances instead to achieve the functionality in your question. This can be done by setting OP_MODE to mode 1 (manage appliances). Using the CLI, "ha-cfg set OP_MODE 1". This is well documented in the HA-Lizard administration guide. You can download that here. halizard.com/images/pdf/HA-Lizard_1.6.42.pdf
