Routed networking mode 9 years 2 weeks ago #390

Hello,

is it possible to use HA-Lizard/HA-ISCSI with routed networking mode?

I'm using Xen Server 6.5.

Thank you,
Manuel

Hi Manuel,
Assuming that you are able to run the switch backend in bridge mode (disable OVS) then I would not expect any problems. Please post your results when done.

Hello!

I'm currently running in bridged mode. I was just wondering why the installer forces change from "routed" to "bridged" and whether I can revert this change after a successful install.

Thank you,
Manuel

The default switch-network-backend setting of openvswitch does not work with DRBD 8.4. In the past, we circumvented the problem by running an older version of DRBD (8.3.x) which worked reliably with openvswitch.

With the release of xenserver 6.5, we felt that running the kernel provided DRBD 8.4 was more favorable to our older approach of compiling and shipping DRBD 8.3 packages.

If your deployment requires OVS - you can try compiling drbd 8.3 and installing the kernel module. Our documentation has detailed instructions for doing so. You would need to do this on the Citrix provided DDK for 6.5. The major downside to this approach is that updates to the kernel (which are common) will break DRBD and you would need to recompile a new DRBD module to match kernel updates, hence why we decided diabling OVS was a better approach.

Regarding your question about reverting back to OVS after an install; no, you cannot revert back as it will destabilize your system.
