The meaning of failed VM! 10 years 2 months ago #186

Hi,

I am investigating the functional properties of HA-lizard to decide how much it is useful for our XenServer environment.

I wonder, what is the meaining of a failed VM for HA-lizard. Our XenServer VM crashed unexpectedly yesterday with the message of BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request (VM couldn't be pinged and some services such as ssh were down). Is this scenario a VM failure, and could HA-lizard restart my VM in this failure case?

Any idea

HA-Lizard treats any VM that is in the power-off state as a failed VM. So, in the case of your VM failure, if the VM powered off after the error, HA-Lizard would automatically restart the VM and send an alert to the administrator. You can view it as infrastructure level HA.

Ha-Lizard does not check for errors at the VM O/S level - an outside network managemenet system is typically responsible for alerting when there is a SW or application problem.
